F*cking Fitness

The following article is a continuation on the topic of body standards previously discussed in The Beauty Myth.

Fit does not mean looking like a muscle-bound bodybuilder, competing for Mr. Olympia.
Fit does not mean you have to look like a cover model of a fitness magazine.
Being fit means you have a healthy diet and exercise regimen, and although this may or may not come with chiseled muscles, it doesn’t mean that success is only measured by how closely you resemble a Greek statue. It means tuning your body so you can enjoy life more.

Body Types

First, you have to know your body type, also known as your somatotype. A twink or a muscle bear can be just as fit as each other, if they look to develop based upon their own somatotype and their own needs.

Next, evaluate the condition of your body, not based on societal beauty standards, but based upon whether or not your body is healthy. In the end, activities for maintenance or modification are up to you. You can like it or change it, but if you choose to change it, it is important that you consult with a professional to work towards your realistic goals.

If you have physical limitations, be it aching joints or body chemical imbalances, adjusting your diet combined with lower-impact exercise can still help you improve your condition. The importance of working with your body and not against it cannot be underrated.

Fitness & Roles

Regardless of what side of the hierarchy slash you are on, good fitness is important.

If you are a Dom, being healthy shows to submissives that you have command of your own self. If you can’t control yourself, what does that say about your ability to control someone else or inspire them to follow you? Dominance is not determined by physical attractiveness, but showing you can avoid a Twinkie waved under your nose is a subtle but impressive demonstration of hierarchy in action.

Submissives do not need to look like a skinny twink, nor like a muscle pup to attract a Dom. Yes, it might make them more visually appealing to some, but it is more necessary that they demonstrate determination and commitment to a healthy lifestyle and enrichment. No Dom wants a sloven sub. The old saying “Protect the Property” is more than just being sure you are not mugged. It means keeping the sub-body in a proper shape to serve. Again, this proper shape may be lean or it may be beefy; it depends on what is right for you with your body type, age, etc. It is less important what the silhouette is than your doctor smiles when he reviews your chart.

Switches can benefit on both sides of the equation, as they already know.

But there is no losing side. Improving your health improves your life. You win, your partners win, everyone wins.

Sexual Benefits

The improved endurance and flexibility will add to your sexual abilities as well. Countless studies have demonstrated a direct correlation between being fit/healthy and sexual performance. It improves stamina, cardio/pulmonary functioning where it matters, cum production, and brain functionality. With our community as small as it is, it is natural for people to talk and “compare notes”. Why limit yourself by something within your control? (And as an aside to the Doms out there, wouldn’t you like to know you’re giving your subs the best / most potent “protein shake” you can, thanks to your improved health?)

There is also the psychological factor that affects sexual performance. When you are happy with what you see in the mirror, you become more confident with yourself and your role, leading to you being more willing to engage with partners as you know what you bring to the session.

Gym Intimidation

The gym can be an intimidating place, especially if you’re just starting out and surrounded by people who look like they were born that way. It’s important to remember though that it takes dedication and hard work to get there, as clearly shown in LIMINALITY and here. It might take time, but it is achievable. Don’t let your nervousness hold you back from getting fit and healthy.

And let’s face it, the guys who go to the gym, no matter what they look like, are all there with the same goal as you. Just make sure you focus on the reason why you’re there, and not the aroma of Alpha musk or those tight shorts the hot sub is wearing while doing squats.

“Fitness” may be a 4-letter word to many of us, but if you never start, you can never change. Growth, evolution, and finding confidence is sexy, no matter what condition your starting body may be in. Given how rough these past few years have been on many of us, it is important to go easy on yourself. It’s not important how you got here; what’s important is where you are going.

Being physically fit is different for different people and body types. The important thing is you keep to a healthy diet, exercise regularly, and consult with your physician on a course best suited to you. Eat healthy, exercise regularly, stay hydrated, get plenty of rest, have small goals to keep motivated, most importantly CELEBRATE when you reach a goal!
